Phoenix the Play

Recently, James and I went to Julia Stiles’ & James Wirt’s new play, Phoenix. It’s an off broadway play at the most darling theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre. With just two actors in the whole play, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, I was very impressed! It was wonderful to see two very talented actors up close and personal performing. In an intimate theater, with nothing to hide behind, Stiles and Wirt really shined. And their chemistry was off the charts! I was entertained from start to finish and wanting more in the end. I just loved how raw and genuine it was. Overall, I was very impressed. And to top it off, I even got to meet and talk with the beautiful Ms. Stiles at the end. You can tell she is so down to earth and genuine in real life too. She has killer style and oozes coolness (is that even a word?). Basically, she is someone you want to be best friends with…for real!

If you are in the area, I highly recommend seeing Phoenix. You will love Wirt and Stiles’ performance in it. And hey, it’s even named after my hometown, so you know it’s going to be great! You can buy tickets here! Hurry before this play ends August 23rd!

Queens Zoo

Last weekend I went to the Queens Zoo with my good friend Courtney. I always love going to the zoo and at $8 a ticket, it’s a good price. There were some fun things to see including the bears and sea lions. Overall though, this wasn’t my favorite zoo. A zoo with no monkeys is no zoo for me! I would recommend Central Park Zoo in the New York area. But regardless, we still had a fun Saturday morning adventure together! It is always fun to get out of the city on the weekend and explore new places.

Be sure to check out Courtney’s blog, Color me Courtney, to see more pictures from our fun zoo day! If you don’t know Courtney yet, you will love her! Her and I go way back to our childhood in AZ where we danced together at my mom’s studio. I love having her here in the city! She will inspire you to add more color to your life! She helps me balance out my black & white obsession. Check her out here!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Going out to brunch on a Saturday morning is probably one of my favorite things to do on the weekend. I am a sucker for good pancakes, and after hearing that Cafe’ LULUc in Brooklyn is known for their pancakes, I had to try it! Not only were the pancakes (and prices) good, but the atmosphere was darling. We sat out back in their garden, had beautiful weather, and amazing food. What more can you ask for?! If you are looking for a great brunch place than check out Cafe’ LULUc, you will love it! And be sure to get the pancakes!

Aladdin. Best Play on Broadway!

You guys, words cannot even begin to describe how amazing Aladdin on Broadway is! I have seen a lot of plays on Broadway over the years, and without hesitation, I can say that Aladdin is the best play to ever hit Broadway! Of course we all love the story, but it is the cast that truly makes the magic come to life! And the Genie, well he steals the show! I was worried I wasn’t going to like him in the play because I loved Robin Williams in the movie, but honestly, he was better than Robin Williams! He recently won a Tony for his role in the play and it is so well deserved! Honestly, I don’t know why Aladdin didn’t win more Tony’s because there is nothing better than it!

The thing I love most about this play is that you can feel how much the cast loves playing their roles! They put their hearts and souls into it. The best scene is when the Genie sings ‘(You Aint Never Had a) Friend Like Me.’ After the scene finished, the entire audience stood up for a standing ovation! In the middle of the show!! No intermission was next, it was just that good that we all wanted to stand up! I am telling you, go see Aladdin on Broadway! You won’t regret it! I would see it again and again. It truly is a whole new world!
