Minted Makeover

October 28, 2015

entry

2015 has been a big year of changes. Lots and lots of changes! Changes that have kept me so busy that I have yet again been away from my little journal on the internet. And while I am not going to get into all of the exciting changes just yet (they are good!), I am going to share one small change we made in our apartment.

Here’s the thing. It is no secret that apartments are small in NYC. And when you have been living in the same studio apartment for almost 5 years, you have to rearrange and redecorate to make your teeny tiny space feel fresh and exciting again! In the coming weeks, I am excited to share with you the changes that we have made (and are still making) to our space.

Today, our first little update comes in our kitchen (you can see the before here). Recently I was able to talk my landlord into updating our kitchen appliances to all stainless steel. So that right there made the first big difference. Next I was looking for new artwork to put in the kitchen. When I saw this poster on minted.com, I knew I just had to have it! It’s bright, clean and so fun for a kitchen! It reminds James and I of our west coast roots, which made us love it even more…

I really love the statement this large print makes in our small kitchen. This photo is by Kamala Nahas from Ventura, California. Kamala is native of coastal Southern California. This photo was by far my favorite on Minted. You can learn more about Kamala and see more of her beautiful photos here! Also be sure to shop all of Minted’s photos online at minted.com.

Special thank you to Minted for sponsoring this post.

Walls Need Love: Chalkboard Door

July 28, 2014

walls need love

I have been wanting to paint the back of our front door with chalkboard paint for a long time, but have been hesitant since we are renters in the city. So, when I went to my friends house and saw that she had a chalkboard door that was a sticker I was so excited!! The best part was that I couldn’t even tell it was a sticker! My friend told me she bought it from Walls Need Love, a great online company that sells wall decals and vinyl wall art. Not only do they have chalkboard decals, but many many other amazing things! Check them out here!

The process was pretty easy. The only hard part was figuring out how we were going to cut the decals to properly fit our door. We ordered two 42×22 rectangle basic chalkboard decals in black. At first I didn’t think it would fit our door, but luckily we had plenty to cover the whole thing top to bottom. I love how it turned out! Here is how the process went…

This was our door before…

To start you will need to clean your door to make it easier for the decal to stick…

After you have measured your door and cut the decals to fit it proper, carefully peel the paper away from the decal and press onto surface…

Carefully press the decal down with the rubber squeegee that comes with your order. This squeegee is very helpful, be sure to go slowly though…

Continue adding on…

And then voila! You have a chalkboard door…

Have a great start to your week!

New Blog. New Bed.

June 9, 2014

Bed: West Elm. Stripe Blanket: IKEA. Pillow: Inspired by Alexandra Ferguson. Bedding: West Elm.

Hello again! It’s been a while. Life has been a little crazy busy, but good! The blog has under gone some major renovations (as you can see) and I am so happy to officially be sharing it with you today!

Aside from a new blog look and address, we got a new bed from West Elm! I have been wanting to share it for months now! We call it our “hotel bed” because that is what it reminds us of. We love not having a foot board anymore because it makes our bed feel so much bigger, plus we don’t kick it in the middle of the night (#tallpeopleproblems). We bought the bed and most of the bedding from West Elm (one of my favorites!). The stripe throw is from IKEA and the “I Love This Place” pillow I made myself after seeing it in a store in the city. It was out of my budget so I made it myself, but you can purchase it here!

Coming home to this bed each night is such a treat! Don’t you just love a comfy and pretty bed?! I have so much to catch you up on, especially my newest collection I am trying to launch! If you follow my instagram (@tayhartley) you probably already know about it. But more on that later! It’s so good to be back!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Over the weekend, the hubs and I decided to stay in and do an in home movie date. I have to say, these are some of my favorite date nights. Being able to watch a movie and snuggle, doesn’t get any better!
P.S.
